During the summer Festival season SSC needs to house a significant number of actors, artists and crew, bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase “Company’s coming!” Learn how you can support SSC through housing opportunities
Become a Part of the Shakespeare Santa Cruz community. Each year the SSC company swells to over 200 people who help make the magic of the season happen. Many of the Company members come from New York, Los Angeles, and points in between.
Each season, the SSC Company Manager and the Housing Coordinator need to make arrangments for accommodations for directors, designers, actors, painters, costume makers and theatre technicians of all kinds. Some Company members depart once the show they are involved with has opened; others remain for the full run. The time frame is roughly from early or mid-June to either late July or late August, depending on who is being housed.
Company Housing: We are seeking houses, apartments, and condos to sublet in areas accessible to the University where all the action takes place (no individual rooms please). We also wholeheartedly welcome donations of living quarters for the summer and can provide the necessary paperwork to claim the donation as a tax deduction. All of our company members will be working long hours, thus of utmost importance is privacy and quiet. We need several special single person dwellings for our directors.
Intern Housing: We also direct our interns who come from out of town to accommodations that might include sharing a household that already exists, a room in someone's home or a studio apartment. So, please do let us know if you have such a property for rent. (SSC company members and support staff do not trade housing for services like pet care. Thank you.)
