Quite possibly the high point of the SSC season for me was the Fringe Show. Having seen numerous productions of Goldoni plays, most of which are dreadfully staid, unimaginative, and lazy, I was dazzled by the verve of this translation, the hip, jazzy comic timing of the young cast, the joy of Goldoni's melding of physical commedia dell'arte stock characters with his own, 18th-century interest in modern character psychology. The plot is simple and fun, the actors are brilliant, and the sound effects in this play are on the money. Go see something you do not already know about, and indulge in the pleasure of a historical trip into a theatrical past that you can enjoy. Hey, it's even affordable!Marie
Quitely frankly, Max Baumgarten is a scream in this.Craig Gilmore
This was a really terrific piece of theatre, so sharp and well-acted/directed/translated - thank you SSC for spotlighting these talented interns in their own show. I had never seen any Carlo Goldoni and now I am smitten. I also enjoyed recognizing the interns from the ensemble work they do in the other plays and this was a treat. And, yes Telemann from Bach at Leipzig (intern Sean Gorski) does have a gorgeous speaking voice - thanks for finally letting us hear it!Leigh S.
