THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA
Book & Lyrics by Kate Hawley; composed by Adam Wernick
“’Wanted: real genuine Princess to wed Prince Royal. Interests include astronomy, horticulture, cross word puzzles and the first three seasons of The Simpsons.’ Oh, Ducky, I think I’ll apply.” - Princess Victoria, Act 1.
Back by popular demand, Kate Hawley’s “panto” played to sold-out houses in 2004. Now remounted for the first time, THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA combines music, comedy, audience participation and strong story telling to create a vibrant entertainment for all ages. Victoria, Princess of the tiny kingdom of Veracity, takes a page from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and dresses as a boy as she sets off alone to find her prince. Trapped in her own disguise, she meets Prince Royal, his outrageous mother Queen Grosioso, the conniving Prime Minister Ratatouille and a dancing bear called Ted. Victoria, with her keen wit and honest heart must compete with false princesses and true villains before she is put to the real test: is she enough of a princess to feel a pea under a hundred mattresses? Mike Ryan returns in one of his most endearing roles – Chester the Jester – who can’t tell a joke to save his life. Don’t wait until it’s “BEHIND YOU!!!” Book now!
